Glasgow City Council offers a bulky waste uplift service, but there's usually a waiting list of 2-4 weeks. You'll need to book online or by phone, and the mattress must be left at the front of your property on collection day. The cost varies depending on how many items you're having collected.

Recycling Centres (Tips)

You can take a mattress to one of Glasgow's household waste recycling centres yourself. The main ones are at Dawsholm, Polmadie, Shieldhall, and Easter Queenslie. You'll need to bring ID and proof of address. The downside is you need a vehicle big enough to transport it.

Can You Take a Mattress to the Tip?

Yes. Glasgow's recycling centres take mattresses, free, as household waste. The practical problem is getting it there. A double mattress will not go in a hatchback, and it's not safe or legal to drive with one strapped to a roof on a dual carriageway. That pushes most people towards borrowing a van, which then needs a council permit arranged beforehand, and it's usually at that point that a collection starts to look better value than the trip. If you do go, take proof of a Glasgow address and don't leave it until late in the day.

Will the Council Take an Old Mattress?
