If you're a builder, plumber, electrician, or any tradesperson working across Glasgow, managing waste from your jobs is part of the business. Getting it wrong can mean fines, but getting it right doesn't have to be expensive.
Your Responsibilities
As a business generating waste, you have a legal duty of care. You must use licensed waste carriers, keep waste transfer notes, and ensure waste is disposed of properly. Using unlicensed operators or fly-tipping — even unknowingly — puts your business at risk.
Skip Hire vs. Man and Van
Skips work well for large-volume, single-location jobs. But for most domestic renovation work — kitchens, bathrooms, extensions — a man-and-van collection is often cheaper and more practical. No need for a permit, no waiting for delivery and collection, and you only pay for what's actually removed.
Plasterboard Rules
Plasterboard (gypsum) cannot be mixed with general waste — it must be kept separate and sent to a specialist recycling facility. This is a legal requirement under the Waste (Scotland) Regulations. We handle plasterboard separation as standard on all collections.
Asbestos Awareness
Many Glasgow properties built before 2000 contain asbestos in artex ceilings, floor tiles, insulation, and pipe lagging. If you suspect asbestos, stop work and arrange professional testing. We do not handle asbestos but can advise on specialist removal companies.
Regular Collections for Trades
If you're generating waste across multiple jobs each week, we offer regular collection arrangements. Call when you need a pickup and we'll aim for same-day or next-day. Monthly invoicing available for established accounts.
Waste Transfer Notes
Every collection from a trade job comes with a waste transfer note. Keep these for at least two years — SEPA can ask to see them. This protects both you and your clients.
