Spring Cleaning & Declutter Guide for Glasgow Homes

Spring cleaning is a Scottish tradition for good reason — after months of short days and closed windows, homes accumulate dust, clutter, and items that have outlived their usefulness. Here's a practical guide to getting your home sorted.

The Rule of Thumb

If you haven't used it in 12 months and it doesn't have sentimental value, it's time to let it go. Be honest with yourself — that exercise bike isn't going to get used, and those magazines from 2019 aren't getting read.

Kitchen

Clear out expired food and spices. Recycle old plastic containers without lids. Donate duplicate or unused appliances. Clean behind and under the fridge and cooker — you'll be amazed what's down there.

Bedrooms

Sort clothing into keep, donate, and dispose piles. Anything stained, torn, or unworn for over a year goes. Bedding and towels have a lifespan — if pillows are flat and towels are threadbare, replace them. Old mattresses should be professionally removed.

Living Room

Books you've read, DVDs you've watched, magazines you've finished — donate or recycle. Check behind and underneath furniture for lost items and accumulated dust. If the sofa is sagging and stained, spring is a great time to replace it.

Garage, Shed & Loft

These are where clutter goes to hide. Old paint tins, broken tools, deflated paddling pools, children's outgrown toys — be ruthless. If it's been in the loft for three house moves, you don't need it.

What to Do With It All

Donate usable items to charity. Recycle what you can through your bins and local recycling centre. For everything else — bulky items, mixed waste, the contents of a loft — call us for a single collection. One visit, everything gone.
