Picking up rubbish is straightforward. What happens AFTER the pickup is what matters for the environment. Some operators dump everything in a skip headed for landfill. We don't.
Sorting at Source
When our team collects waste, we sort as we load. Metals go in one section, wood in another, recyclables separate from general waste. This on-vehicle sorting means materials arrive at the transfer station already partially separated.
Licensed Transfer Station
Everything we collect goes through a licensed waste transfer station. Here, waste is further sorted into recyclable streams: metals, wood, plastics, cardboard, textiles, and green waste. Each stream goes to a specialist recycler.
Charity Partnerships
Furniture, clothing, and household items in good condition go to our local charity partners. This diverts usable items from the waste stream entirely and supports people in need across Glasgow.
Our Recycling Rate
We consistently achieve a recycling and recovery rate above 80% across all collections. This means less than 20% of what we collect ends up in landfill — and we're working to reduce that further.
Waste Transfer Notes
Every collection comes with a waste transfer note that records what was collected and where it's going. This gives you a paper trail confirming your waste was handled responsibly.
Why It Matters
Scotland sends approximately 3 million tonnes of waste to landfill annually. Landfill produces methane — a greenhouse gas 28 times more potent than CO2. Every tonne we divert from landfill makes a tangible difference to Scotland's carbon footprint.
